Buyer Offers – Learn More
This page explains how Buyer Offers work on Sportlots — what the buttons do, how timing works, and why you may sometimes be unable to counter.
What You’ll See
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Card / Condition / Quantity | Details of the item(s) you’re negotiating for. |
| List Price | The seller’s original price for the total quantity. |
| Offer | The current offer amount in the negotiation. |
| Expires In | A live countdown. Each step in the negotiation expires after 72 hours. |
| Message | Optional note from the other party. |
| Show/Hide History | A timeline of all offers and counters for this item. |
The Buttons
- Accept — Accept the seller’s current offer. The item(s) are added to your cart at that amount and a 72-hour cart hold starts. Check out before the hold expires to keep the item and price.
- Decline — Turn down the seller’s current offer and end the negotiation.
- Counter — Propose a new amount (only when it’s your turn and the counter cap hasn’t been reached).
- Withdraw Entire Offer — Cancels the entire negotiation thread (your original offer and all counters).
Turn-Taking & Timing
- Negotiations are turn-based. You can only act after the seller has made a move.
- Each move (offer or counter) expires after 72 hours if no action is taken.
- When a step expires, all actions are disabled and the negotiation ends.
Cart Hold vs. Offer Expiration
- Offer Expiration (72 hours): Each offer or counter step expires if no one acts within 72 hours.
- Cart Hold (72 hours): After you accept, the accepted price is held in your cart for 72 hours. If the cart hold expires, the item and price are removed from your cart.
Counter Limit
- We cap negotiations to keep things moving: Buyer initial offer → Seller counter → Buyer counter (final).
- After your final counter, the seller must Accept or Decline.
- If you don’t see the Counter button, it’s either not your turn, the offer expired, or the cap has been reached.
Counter Rules (Ranges)
- Your counter must be strictly between your previous offer and the seller’s last counter — no ties.
- Example: If you offered
$25.00and the seller countered$27.00, your counter must be between$25.01and$26.99.
Tip: If you change your mind while it’s the seller’s turn, use Withdraw Entire Offer to cancel the thread.
FAQ
Why can’t I counter?
It may not be your turn, the counter limit has been reached, or the offer expired.
What happens when I accept?
The item(s) are added to your cart at the accepted amount and a 72-hour cart hold begins. If you don’t check out in time, the hold expires and the item/price are removed from your cart.
Does shipping or tax change when I negotiate?
No. Negotiation is for the item amount. Shipping and tax are calculated at checkout.
